SOUTHERN IDAHO TO CELEBRATE MANUFACTURING DAY

TFchamber 10/02/18

Canyon Ridge High School students to tour local manufacturers and experience training programs

TWIN FALLS, ID – October 1, 2018 – Organizations and educators in Southern Idaho will celebrate 2018 Manufacturing Day with a full-day event, Thursday, October 4. The event will educate high school students on the manufacturing careers available to them in the Southern Idaho region. It is in conjunction with Canyon Ridge High School (CRHS), College of Southern Idaho (CSI) Workforce Development & Training Program, the city of Twin Falls and Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization (SIEDO).

“This is a great opportunity to help students see and understand future employment opportunities,” said Nathan Hyer, Instructor in the CRHS Canyon Ridge Automated Manufacturing Program. “So often students think about jobs like doctors and police but have no idea what great jobs they can pursue behind the closed doors of factories. We want them to find something where they can make a positive impact and have a lifestyle they can enjoy.”

Students from CRHS will tour some of the region’s leading manufacturers, including Novolex (Hilex Poly), Agropur Cooperative, Jayco Inc., Kapstone Paper and Packaging, Seastrom Manufacturing and Dart Container Corporation.

“Our region is filled with so many great employers, especially in the manufacturing industry,” said Connie Stopher, SIEDO Executive Director. “We are proud to join together for this event to showcase the number of high-quality careers available to our current workforce and the workforce of tomorrow.”

Students will also tour CSI’s Applied Technology Innovation Center, where they will experience a wide array of career paths and training programs such as precision machining, automated manufacturing and food processing.

“The manufacturing industry is such a key component of our region and provides such a variety of career options to our community. The College of Southern Idaho is thrilled to join with our partners to showcase the unlimited career opportunities available in our community,” said Brandi Turnipseed, Executive Director of CSI’s Workforce Development & Training Program.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

The city of Twin Falls has issued a proclamation to recognize Manufacturing Day in Twin Falls.

“Southern Idaho celebrates a thriving economy and manufacturing industries play a critical role in the diverse economic climate of the region,” said Shawn Barigar, Mayor of the city of Twin Falls. “Job opportunities in manufacturing are plentiful and provide a bright future for tomorrow’s workforce.”
